Our Board of Deacons is organized into three ministries: service, witness, and compassion.
The Ministry of Service is responsible for the physical needs of the individual members and friends of the congregation. Its duties shall be to coordinate communication with members and friends, including regular calls and other contacts in order to determine their needs. They will provide information and or referral to services as needed, including keeping the pastor informed on a regular basis. They will also investigate and set up links with emergency planning/disaster services in the community.
The Ministry of Witness is responsible for the spiritual well-being of the congregation and outreach to the community. Its duties shall be to maintain contacts with the congregation and the community to determine spiritual needs. They will provide and coordinate projects for the food of the community. They will find ways to invite others to church activities. They will work with the session to provide communion and tapes of worship services to shut-ins. They will provide information and referral as needed. They will also coordinate nurturing of new members
The Ministry of Compassion/Sympathy is responsible for responding to specific needs of those in crisis or discomfort. Its duties shall be to visit the sick, homebound, and their families and coordinate efforts to address their needs. They will assist those grieving, including attendance at funerals, assistance with funeral service needs, provision of meals, etc. as needed. They will coordinate the provision of emergency transportation. They will explore the possibility of bereavement support, or of coordinating with other bereavement programs in the community. They will investigate ways of increasing the sharing of Christian affection and caring among the congregation as a whole.
